Introduction
The Uses Trust Ltd., less formally know as The Uses Trust, is a new venture
that has several distinctive yet related objectives. They are related
because they all take their vigor and inspiration from the writings of
Emanuel Swedenborg. They are distinctive because they represent an effort
that has never been attempted before.
As Swedenborgians are well aware, the observation of their faith is not
uniform. First of all, there are several branches of the Church each having
distinctive characteristics which, although significant within each branch,
are not sufficient to alienate them from one another. As a result
cooperative efforts among the branches, through interaction from among their
congregations, although perhaps not the order of the day, are not uncommon
especially where publication and distribution of Swedenborg's writings are
involved.
It is perhaps owing to the effectiveness of this dissemination of
Swedenborg's works that another means of observation of our faith occurs
which involves individuals who, although unchurched themselves, immerse
themselves in Swedenborgian theology through extensive self-study.
Unfortunately, and as best we can tell, there are more of these closet
Swedenborgians than church attendees. The net effect, however, is positive
because the impact of Swedenborgian doctrine percolates through a far more
extensive population than the formal members of our tiny Church.
Finally, there is such a lapse in knowledge of Swedenborg in this day and
age that much misinformation about about him and his work has flourished.
For example, during much of the 20th Century a significant number of those
who bother to think about such things believed that the Swedenborgian
Religion was a cult. Obviously none of these misinformed souls had ever
either attended a church service or read any of the applicable doctrine.
Nevertheless, although the cult canard has effectively been put to rest,
much misinformation abounds owing to a continuing lack of knowledge.
Into this situation marches The Uses Trust with its distinctive objectives.
The officers and directors of The Trust, all being connected either
personally or professionally with Swedenborg Chapel in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, USA, are intent on providing early support to this
significant Swedenborgian presence on the East Coast of the United States.
While this objective receives priority treatment in the immediate future,
The Trust will start to emphasize as soon as feasible its principal
initiatives which are outlined below. These have a common denominator of
inclusiveness so that the involvement of any person from any branch of our
faith is welcome as a beneficiary. The Trust will also sponsor initiatives
that are open to involvement by any person with any interest Swedenborgian
doctrine at all. We think that closet Swedenborgians deserve strong
encouragement, almost as much support as if they attended church with the
rest of us.
The Trust will also try to respond to emergency situations of a one-time
nature which may arise in any Church in any branch. Such support will follow
a simple request and the application of such priorities as the Officers and
Directors of the trust may devise as well, of course, as Trust finances will
allow. The final objective of The Uses Trust will be to further an
understanding of Occupational Compatibility. You may wonder: Why on earth do
that?
Interestingly, it is the concept of Occupational Compatibility that provides
the main funding for The Uses Trust's Objectives. The website <www.mycareer-wist.com>
presents individuals with a means to assess their occupational strengths
directly and their occupational weakness through inference. A modest fee is
charged to complete a self-scoring, race- and gender-neutral WIST Adjective
Selection from which respondents can directly observe for consideration
their most valid career choices. That The Uses Trust should seek ways to
further the field of Occupational Compatibility is quite logical inasmuch as
eighty percent of the WIST website earnings have been dedicated in an
arrangement which gives The Uses Trust exclusive rights to WIST.
We hope that you will find these objectives of interest. It is our intention
to keep this site up to date so that it can take a place of pride among the
excellent links shown here. We especially invite your attention to <www.mycareer-wist.com>
since your visit will not only further The Trust's objective to advance
knowledge about the field of Occupational Compatibility, but also assist in
the marketing of WIST.
